Well, the patient who's afraid of the dentist, if he's coming to my office and sitting in the chair, the first thing I would do is talk to him and communicate with him with empathy and with caring that I know this patient is suffering because of fearfulness and nervousness. Maybe it's mere anxiety. We help those patients and we do tell them we do offer sedation in this office, we have options for that. You have picked the right office because this is what we do.
There are thousands of patients, like yourself, which we have treated by sedation and they had the work done, which they always desired to do that, but they were postponing simply because they were fearful. We do offer sedation in this office, whether it's nitrous, or oral sedation in the form of a pill, or it's an IV sedation. We do all that stuff just to get rid of the anxiety and get the procedure done they have always been wanting to do.

Soothe Nerves With Individualized Attention & Sedation
Before I came to this dentist office, I hadn't been to the dentist in many years because of my anxiety of—I was so scared of going to a dentist that I put it off. I had been so used to eating on one side of my mouth because the other side had holes and it was a mess. Going to the movie theatre trying to eat popcorn, trying to chew a steak, normal foods that everybody enjoys on a daily basis is a chore when your teeth are in such bad condition. Just being able to function, and be able to eat whatever you want and not worry about, oh is this going to affect me? Am I going to be in pain after I eat this meal? Is food going to get stuck in my teeth after I eat this? I've never had a problem with any work that they've done. When I go to a restaurant, I look forward to eating now.
Before, when your teeth are in pain, your teeth are in bad shape, there's certain foods that you won't eat, even if you want to, because you know you're going to pay for it later. I'm able to eat popcorn. I'm able to eat whatever I want. Of course, I'm taking care of my teeth after I eat what I eat. I'm keeping up with my visits because I don't want to go back to where I was before. The anxiety of it, just being able to sit in a dentist now and just ... I actually look forward to coming up and maintaining my teeth. As before, I avoided it at all costs. I don't know how many appointments I made with different dentists and just canceled them because I'd get there and just be like, “You know what? I got things going on. I can't do it today.” After coming here, you're coming to visit family.
Our team is skilled in administering local anesthesia. Many dentists treat the application of numbing agent in a cookie-cutter fashion, but our dentists understand that everyone is different and some patients need more or less anesthesia than others. They listen to you, and if you feel anything at all, they stop and make sure you’re comfortable before continuing.
Our team also understands that anesthesia isn’t always enough, so you can get dental sedation as well. We offer three different types so you can select the one that will work best for you during your procedure. All offer different levels of relaxation, and our dentists will review the pros and cons of each approach with you. They are:
- Nitrous oxide or “laughing gas”
- Oral sedation in the form of a pill you take prior to your procedure
- IV sedation that is administered intravenously
