Crowns and bridges are custom-made restorations that are often used when teeth are lost or suffer serious damage. Crowns and bridges can restore the appearance of your smile and allow you to chew and speak normally.
To create a custom dental crown, we begin by taking impressions or digital images of the patient’s teeth. After the restoration has been created, the crown or bridge will be applied. Our office offers both traditional two-visit crowns and bridges and CEREC technology which allows us to make your restoration while you wait.
When a tooth is damaged, a dental crown can be used to protect it from further damage and improve its appearance and function. If the crown is being used to repair or protect a damaged tooth, it will “cap” the existing structure. Crowns can also be placed on either side of a dental bridge to support it in place. For a crown that is being used to a missing tooth, a dental implant will be installed first. The crown is then secured to the implant.
A dental bridge can be used to replace a missing tooth or multiple teeth in a row. A dental bridge consists of one or more replacement teeth supported on either end by dental crowns. The crowns will be placed on healthy, natural teeth to support the replacement teeth in the middle. These replacement teeth will then “bridge” any gap that was created by lost teeth.
